Sascha Schuhmacher
Sascha Schuhmacher is an abstract expressionist painter. He was born in Amsterdam in 1992 and lives and works in his home studio by the Amstel. His creative journey is deeply rooted in his bloodline, with a talented grandfather Wim Schuhmacher, a renowned drawer known as ‘the master of grey’, and his mother Esther Nica Sassen, a talented oil painter and musician. Sascha's inspiration also comes from his own layered life story that has driven him to make and to create.
The strange fairy tale dreaminess of magic realism and neo-expressionisme
artists and philosophers Basquiat, Banksy and Ensor are among Schuhmacher’s primary influences. With a dynamic interplay of acrylic and oil on canvas, he weaves mesmerizing narratives through sweeping, gestural brushstrokes and thick layers of paint, infusing his works with a palpable kinetic texture and a profound sense of depth.
His work is painted in a loose, flowing style, some featuring figurative elements. An occasional lyrical poem also appears, reflecting his background in music. These paintings are cathartic, with both playful and powerful elements: a sweet yet primal mystic medicine for one’s state of mind. Schuhmacher collaborates regularly with other Amsterdam painters, musicians, fashion designers and filmmakers and is available for select commissions.
Mark your calendars for Schuhmacher's upcoming exhibition, "Character.Aim.Touch," which will grace the walls of Lifely on Prinsengracht 197D, Amsterdam, starting Saturday, July 8th, 2023. Be prepared to be captivated by his masterful brushwork, as he unveils an immersive experience that transcends the boundaries of art.
